Return of the forgotten project

It has been nearly 2 years since I worked on my Space Hulk project.  I managed to make and paint enough sections to play the first mission with and then moved on to other projects.  As I haven’t been able to get the time in to play my first game of Rally Round the King, I have been able to revisit this project while some renewed enthusiasm hit.  Unfortunately I have run out of hydrocal so it cannot go any further until I get some more.

Before I ran out though, I have managed to make enough pieces to make up floor pieces for the latest edition of the game as well as having enough industrial and pipe pieces to edge the board sections.  I have managed to make up a number of complete sections mainly t-intersections and other corridor pieces  but I have also managed to make up all but 2 of the rooms.

Here are some photos of a couple of the rooms that have been built and painted.

The first room is my version of the 4 x 3 room.  I have designed it as a teleporter room and you can see the two teleporting pads.

This picture is obviously the completed picture and then a close up of the energy cells.

This is first time that I have tried to paint this sort of effect.  Not too bad for a first attempt.

This next room I have made 2 of the walls as barricades as I envisage that the room is larger and that some unknown defenders hastily built up these barricades to help defend themselves.  You can see 3 sentry guns that were also used in the defence.

Wood Elf Army

Here are the photos of my Wood Elf army from Splintered Light Miniatures.  These are based like my Undead, for HOTT or mainly for Rally Round the King.

Splintered Light Undead army

This week I received my order from Splintered Light Miniatures and after a couple nights worth of work, here are some pictures from my Undead army.  I purchased both an Undead army as well as a Wood Elf army and will be working on the elves over this week.  I have also bought grey pumice from Vallejo to use as basing material instead of the poly filler but  as I was too impatient to wait so I could base both armies with it, and as a result I will have to only use it on the elves.

The big reason I chose Splintered Light for my Undead army is that I love the fact that they have different skeleton types to choose from.  I was able to buy skeleton dwarves, orcs, humans and Leonines (humanoid lions) and centaurs.  There were others that I didn’t not initially choose but will like to buy eg artillery and monsters.

As a quick review, I am very impressed by the Splintered Light minis.  I had fantastic service right from the start as I was told part of my order was needed to be restocked and David continued this level of communication all the way through.  The figures are great, with little to no flash on them at all and the range to choose from was huge (and only getting bigger – new elf cavalry out hopefully late October and Ratmen, again hopefully, by the end of year).

I have used DBA basing sizes so I can use both of these armies in a variety of games.  I will be using them for Rally Round the King (RRTK) from THW, they are the same base size as my DBA Selucids (see earlier posts) and can also be used for HOTT (Horde of the Things), the fantasy DBA rules.

I hope to play a game of RRTK during the week sometime so I will be posting a battle report soon.  Any way on to the pictures……

The next picture shows the characters of the army Hero, wizard, wizard (left to right).

The hero would have to be my favourite as I really like the paint job on her. Hopefully I have painted her up to look like a wraith (she is actually from the zombie range).

I have just noticed that I didn’t paint up the guts that are hanging off the zombie in the back.  Will have to fix that up.

Playing around with MapTool

I have been playing around with MapTool , mainly to see how it would work in a Traveller PBM/RPG game and the more I play with it the more I like this tool.  Just need to say that character tokens have used images from Rebel Miniatures until I can get my own painted.  These have not been distributed in any way.

To be able to create your own maps, import others as well as have LOS, Fog of War (players can only see what they have LOS too) as well as playing over a LAN or even the internet makes this quite powerful.

Yesterday I spent trying to convert some of my Mayhem Tiles (from WWG) to be used to make modern maps, so I decided to make up a small map and try and have a game of All Things Zombie (THW).  I haven’t yet had the chance to play the game but I have taken some photos of what has been completed.  I actually was even able to connect the laptop up to my TV.  Anyway, here are the pictures:

laptop & TV

The next photo show the LOS function.  I have the cursor over a character Clive and it shows up the LOS the character has in white lines.  There are two lines that I have red around, these aren’t LOS markers, they are just from the images I captured of the tiles.

photo 1

In the next photo, you can see the different LOS that Don has over Clive as he is further down the street and as a result he can’t see down the alley any where near as far as Clive.

photo 2

The next photo I have included a zombie on the board and the LOS that it has.  Here it can see Clive and over half of the base of Tony.

zombie LOS

Clive now has LOS to the zombie.

Clive LOS to zombie

Jack the third character can see just the smallest part of the zombie base so this could easily be ruled as having no LOS.

Jack LOS to zombie

The next photo shows the updated character sheet.  Here you can see the cursor just placed over the token and then the other picture and character sheet appears.  The sheet can be modified depending on what game you are playing.  I have placed a blue square halo over Jack as he is rep 5 while the other three have a red halo as they are rep 4.  The zombie have a red circle base.

The tool can even handle die rolls attacks and assigning damage with the correct macros.  There is a huge amount of resources on the site and a great bunch of people on the forum ready to help.
